Iowa City's homegrown music
Co-founded in late 2000 by singer/songwriter Nikki Lunden Trotter and Natalie Brown (violin/mandolin), The Trollies are the epitome of original, homegrown folk rock music. Nikki and Natalie formed The Trollies by hanging out at the Monday night Green Room blues jams where they found their drummer Seth "Puma" Koenig and original bassist Rory Lewis. The Trollies took the Iowa City music scene by storm, developing a dedicated following in Iowa City and the surrounding areas. Adam "Dickens" Grosso took over on bass mid 2001 and appeared on The Trollies 2nd record "Roundtrip Weekend" which was never officially released but some bootlegs are out there floating around. The Trollies first album "Fountain Pennies" was widely received around the region. The Trollies disbanded in 2003, but have remained friends and musical cohorts in many other projects.
In 2023, The Trollies played "Fountain Pennies" cover to cover at Gabes in Iowa City and added a few bonus songs and released the live recording in January 2025. The Trollies disbanded in 2003 but are known to reunite for a magical and nostalgic performance once every few years.
